The executive director of KISA-Doros Polykarpou- joined yesterday’s event of the “Civil Society Action Week” at the Goethe Institut Nicosia. Within the “Rights for all Day” the documentary “Evaporating Borders” was screened and a discussion followed with the participation of Mr. Polykarpou, a representative from EASO (European Asylum Support Office), and Tegiye Birey (Refugee Rights Association). The executive director of KISA talked about the documentary, the relation of the film director Iva Radivojevic and Leandros Savvides with KISA, the difficult situation of the refugees in Cyprus that results for them to be extruded from coming to Cyprus or come and then leave as well as the necessity of cooperation between NGOs in the North and the South concerning issues of refugee’s protection and combat against trafficking.
Furthermore, a question to the EASO representative was made, regarding if there will be future involvement of local NGOs in the consultations of EASO during their visits and operation with member states. The representative positively responded that the EASO decided to have a tighter cooperation and consultation with the NGOs during its visits to the member states.
